West Campus House System Transfer Student Information

As residents of the West Campus House System, 300 transfer students have the opportunity to mix with upperlevel students in a House and receive support from their House Professor-Dean, Assistant Dean, and Graduate Resident Fellows. Please see the testimonials below from current transfer students regarding their experience in the West Campus House System.

"As a new transfer student, I was concerned about being able to make friends at Cornell. However, my experiences in Keeton House in the West Campus House System made me feel at home almost immediately here at Cornell. I was placed in a suite with four other transfers, and most of the other students on my floor are transfers as well. Being around them made me feel not so alone in the transition process. However, I found that the returning students living in the house were also very open and friendly, which helped me connect with the Cornell community. I became involved in the house by playing on the soccer team and becoming a member of House Forum, and I have attended various events put on by House staff, such as a tour of the Cornell Plantations, a trip to the Schwartz Center to see The Importance of Being Ernest, and an election night party. Overall, I am very happy with my experience in Keeton House, and I will be returning to the house next year, living with friends that I have made here in Keeton House."

"The West Campus Housing System has played an important part in my transition to Cornell. The students, professors and staff made me feel welcomed. Not only did I make friends the first day, but friends that I will have for a lifetime. The house system really encouraged me to feel like I belonged and that I am part of the Cornell community. With the varied educational activities, guest speakers, and house meals I immediately felt involved. Living in a house with returning students was also extremely helpful. Their input about the academic and social scene has been invaluable."

"The West Campus House System is almost a home away from home for me. As a transfer student, I was a bit skeptical about the integration process after the demolition of Transfer Center. I was worried how I was going to survive in Ithaca without any support system. Carl Becker House provided me that platform and helped me adapt and assimilate into the new surroundings, while helping me build my identity in school that I felt was jeopardized due to transferring from my previous school. If it was not for the warmth, love, support of everyone in the West Campus House System and Carl Becker House provided me, my transition into Cornell would have been very cumbersome."
