West Campus Residential Initiative

Residential Initiative Executive Group

The Residential Initiative Executive Group is charged with implementing the president's seven-point plan, and is responsible for leading and managing the project to successful completion. The RIEG reviews and assesses project plans and deliverables, and makes recommendations on project scope, use of resources, and time frame for implementation. These recommendations are presented to the president, provost, senior vice president, executive budget group, capital facilities and planning committee, and board of trustees, who will make final decisions in relation to other university priorities and use of resources, both internal and external.

The Facilities Services Project Co-Leader (John A. Kiefer) is responsible for delivering programmatically-sound, facilities-related projects on time and under budget. This is accomplished by coordinating and directing the architectural and design teams, as well as the contractors who construct the project.

The Student and Academic Services/Campus Life Project Co-Leader (M. J. MacAnanny) is responsible for assuring that the program, design, and facilities meet the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders, ranging from the building's operating staff to visiting faculty to, ultimately, the students.

West Campus Council

The West Campus Council's primary responsibility is implementing the recommendations of the report "Transforming West Campus." These involve: instituting a post-freshman year living environment on West Campus that has faculty leadership as its most important principle; redesigning and/or construction of a house system which has appropriate facilities for encouraging social and intellectual interaction among the diverse members of the Cornell community, such as living quarters for faculty, staff including graduate student fellows, a community dining area, and seminar rooms; recruiting distinguished Cornell faculty to participate as live-in House Professors or in other important roles; and developing diverse models for formal and informal academic programs.
