Faculty Programs in Residential Communities

Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellows Student Community Interaction Project

Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellows Student Community Interaction Project offers Weiss Fellows the opportunity for increased interaction with students outside the classroom. Fellows are provided a modest meal plan that can be used for meals with students in any Campus Life Dining Facility. Fellows are also provided access to additional programming funds that may be used for special initiatives such as museum visits; tickets to plays, dance and musical performances; or other similar events around which relationships with students might be built. This project is made possible through support from the office of the Vice President for Student and Academic Services and is administered by Campus Life.

Weiss Fellows are distinguished members of the Cornell faculty who have been recognized for their sustained record of outstanding, effective, and inspiring teaching of undergraduate students at Cornell University. The Weiss Fellowship is Cornell's most prestigious teaching award. Weiss Fellows, selected by the University President from among a small group of finalists chosen by a special committee, have a lifetime designation. Weiss Fellows have made distinctive contributions to undergraduate teaching by providing challenging and well-organized presentations of their subject specialty and by offering innovative approaches to course materials. The positive impact that Weiss Fellows have on their students extends far beyond the classroom; Weiss Fellows often serve as informal advisors, counselors, and mentors to students throughout the University.
