Student Affairs and Diversity: Mission & Vision
Mission & Vision

Although in its infancy, the Student Affairs and Diversity Unit (henceforth, SA&D) has nonetheless started defining a course of action which reflects the following mission and vision:

Mission

The Student Affairs and Diversity Unit within the Department of Campus Life aims to promote educational justice for all undergraduate students at Cornell via a process of continuous self-awareness and personal growth, increased knowledge and appreciation of difference in all its shapes and the learning of skills pivotal to social action.

Vision

The vision of SA&D is:

1) To enhance the level of multicultural competence of all Campus Life academic and student affairs staff,
2) To increase the responsible leadership of first year students,
3) To support students and families in crisis,
4) To nurture increased accountability via assessment and programmatic development
5) To heighten the expectation of an unbiased living and learning experience via Campus Life
6) And, to contribute to a better understanding of the role of Student Affairs at Cornell University via collaborative research and study.

Specifically, SA&D contributes to the efforts of the Department of Campus Life by:

1) Leading a cross functional Campus Life Diversity Task Force with active participation from the Dean of Students' Office and the faculty,
2) Developing and implementing a diversity enhancement plan for Campus Life,
3) Actively participating on 15 University wide and Departmental committees,
4) Engaging other University staff and faculty in an array of collaborative efforts,
5) Evaluating Campus Life internal documentation and reporting out of biased activity,
6) And, developing innovative programming to respond to the special needs of students and staff.
