Campus Life Diversity Task Force

Charge:

Campus Life is committed to providing programs, services, facilities and related support which foster education, individual growth, and community development. The existence of a welcoming, safe, respectful and engaging community is an essential characteristic of an environment in which students, staff and faculty learn, grow and participate in meaningful academic, social and work activities that contribute to the betterment and overall well being of the members of the campus community.

The Campus Life Diversity Task Force has been created to foster and make real the on-going and long term commitment to the embracing and practice of diversity in all its shapes throughout Campus Life units. This unconditional commitment to equity, inclusion, respect and appreciation of all members of the University community serves to also clearly demonstrate an absolute abhorrence to bias and bigotry.

Planning, communication, training, mentoring and recognition are key elements of the charge to this Campus Life Diversity Task Force.

Specifically, it shall:

-Offer input to the Director of Student Affairs and Diversity on the development of departmental diversity strategic plans that dovetail into broader campus climate efforts

-Develop and implement a Campus Life central system to coordinate and communicate all diversity programming across the department

-Provide a departmental central place for the coordination and strategic planning of diversity training initiatives focused on the enhanced respect, increased multicultural competence, and achieved multicultural transformation at the individual, unit, and department levels

-Act as a sounding board for diversity programming ideas in Campus Life

-Assist the Director of Student Affairs and Diversity to develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate a multi-layered mentoring program across the department focused on leadership development, retention of staff and students, and the appreciation of difference

-Develop and implement means of recognition for students, faculty and staff for outstanding efforts to positively influence the diversity climate in Campus Life

Learning objectives for the committee shall include:

1. Members will broaden their knowledge and understanding of diversity issues
2. Members will enhance their ability to actualize positive change
3. Members will increase their leadership and organizational skills

Membership:

Chaired by the Director of Student Affairs and Diversity
1-2 representatives from each functional area in Campus Life
1-2 representatives from the Division of Student and Academic Services
1 representative from the Campus Climate Committee/ Vice Provost for Diversity and Faculty Development
1 representative from the Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity, and Life Quality
2 members at large

Representation within the committee should include diverse racial/ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, age, class, level of ability, and socio-economic level.

This is a one year appointment renewable for a period not to exceed five years.
