"She's a McLLUie, He's a McLLUie, We're all McLLUie's...
Wouldn't you like to be a McLLUie too!"

Cornell University is proudly built on a framework of supporting ''a diverse and inclusive campus.'' The Multicultural Living Learning Unit, known as McLLU (pronounced McClue) celebrates this foundation by providing opportunities to recognize and value our cultural differences. Living in McLLU will certainly be unlike any other living experience you could have. It literally introduces you to a new world, as you share life and living with others who take pride in their cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. ''McLLUies'' are encouraged to exchange ideas, perspectives, and experiences around cultural identities and issues, celebrating the differences.

Although its population is small, 52 McLLUies, it is large in spirit representing a global community of different backgrounds and ethnic groups. McLLU also represents a wide range of the student population with upperclass, graduate, transfer, and first year students living together in a safe and comfortable community.

The Multicultural Living Learning Unit, was originally housed in the Class of '17 on West Campus. In 1999 McLLU was relocated to North Campus within Clara Dickson Hall. As of 2000, Clara Dickson has commonly been referred to as the Dickson-McLLU Complex (DMC). McLLU has a large programming space called ''the Living Room'' and a smaller more intimate space, ''the Den.'' These spaces are comfortably furnished and equipped with a small reading library, TV, VCR, stereo, and a DVD player. McLLU's facilities also include two kitchens, a study lounge, and laundry room. It's new North Campus location is ideal because it is near several convenient facilities including community centers, dining halls, convenience stores, recreational facility, gyms, and bus routes.

McLLU was founded in 1990 by a group of students who wanted to live in a community where they could learn from an eclectic cultural group of peers. A ''home'' where everyone is welcome and invited to share ideas, values and experiences in the true spirit of collegiality. A cornerstone for McLLU, since it's inception, has been to strive for knowledge, tolerance, acceptance, and ultimately a celebration of differences. This theme of ''open-mindedness'' has endured and, as a result, the diversity of its residents is often mirrored by their enthusiasm to learn.

As with all the program houses, members are actively involved in promoting educational and social activities for their community. No matter what the occasion, from discussion groups to faculty dinners, concerts or field trips to places like the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C, the United Nations, or the Women's Hall of Fame, McLLUies are always engaged with an open and tolerant heart.

The spirit of acceptance that McLLU is famous for, creates an atmosphere where harmony is easily accommodated and where lasting friendships are bound to begin. Like they say... ''once a McLLUie, always a McLLUie!''
