Founders Hall
West Campus [map]
A residence for undergraduate students.
Welcome to The Gothics- a residential community on Cornell's West Campus; Founders, Mennen, Lyon, McFaddin, and South Baker. Picture yourself living amidst Gothic towers and waking up to morning light filtering through lead paned windows as scholars did centuries ago. Completed in 1933, and originally built as a residence for men, The Gothics provides its residents with a unique living environment defined by Gothic architecture of stone and ivy covered walls. Each community within the complex is comprised of a number of living options-- ranging from single rooms to four person suites-- in smaller living units housing between five and twenty residents. The RA staff of is responsible for the community development of several of these "units," which may be co-educational or single-sex.
Programming in the Gothics is varied to meet the wide range of student interest. Some annual events include drive-in movies on the Tower, Fall trips to hike the gorges, sea kayaking on Cayuga Lake, go-karting, a Winter Semi-Formal, a Mardi Gras celebration, trips to the Lateshow with David Letterman and an end of the year barbecue. The Hall Council is a residentially based governance organization. The officers are elected early in the Fall and the board is comprised of representatives from each building who gather weekly to put on events for the entire community. Come experience it for yourself.
