What are my options for phone service while on campus?
You may use your personal cell phone, the residence hall common phones, or bring your own analog phone and request phone jack activation and land-line phone service in your room. Please consult Cornell Information Technology’s phone service information.
What will my room include?
Your room will have a twin bed, desk, desk chair, desk lamp, bureau, and wastebasket for each occupant. These must not be removed from the room. The furniture provided meets most students' needs, and it is best not to duplicate those items or bring large furniture. The windows have drapes, shades, or blinds.
Residence halls are not air-conditioned. You may want to bring your own fan.
Do I need to bring bedding?
Bed linens, blankets, and pillows will be provided for each student.
Are there prohibited items in the residence hall rooms?
Yes, as a matter of safety there are a few items that you are NOT allowed to have in your room:
What about decorations?
You're welcome to bring posters and plants to make your room feel more homey. You may hang posters from the molding strip using tacks, but do not use tape or tacks on the walls themselves. Please do not hang anything from curtain rods or sprinkler pipes.
What laundry facilities are available?
You'll find washers and dryers in each residence hall. We take care of your bed linens at the weekly linen exchange; all other laundering is up to you. You can use the washers and dryers by "swiping" your Cornell ID card. Each wash and dry cycle costs $1.55 (fee subject to change). If you need to add laundry money to your Cornell ID card during the program, you can do so at card.campuslife.cornell.edu, or by visiting one of the North Campus service centers in Robert Purcell Community Center or Appel Commons.
May I cook in the residence hall?
Summer College participants eat in the dining units (only residential staff members may use the residence hall kitchens).
Please be aware that appliances without thermostatic controls (including hot plates, toasters, microwave ovens, coffeepots, or water heaters) are prohibited in the residence halls, and will be confiscated if found.
May I bring a bicycle?
Yes. Please register your bike (for free) with Cornell’s Department of Transportation. You can get a registration card at the Summer College service center in Robert Purcell Community Center, or you may register online. You will receive a registration sticker to display on your bike so you can park it on campus.
