What is Graduate Housing like?
Quiet, clean, well-maintained, convenient, and comprised of all graduate students (or of graduate student age). Our residents in campus grad housing are made up of graduate students, non-traditional undergrads, and visiting scholars. They are singles as well as families. They range in age from newborn babies to grandparents. In some of our areas, the population may be as high as 70% internationals, from approximately 60 different countries! Living here offers many opportunities for meeting interesting people, making good friends, learning new things, and experiencing a diverse community.
What kinds of housing contracts are offered?
Click here for information about academic-year and 12-month contract periods.
If I am a single student, will I have a roommate?
No. All single grad students in Graduate & Professional Student Housing have single rooms/bedrooms. If living in a multi-bedroom apartment, you will have apartment-mate(s). Each occupies his or her own bedroom.
Are campus grad housing areas closed at any time during the year?
With the exception of Hughes Hall and Schuyler House, all of campus graduate housing areas stay open throughout the academic year. They do not close for Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, or Spring Break. The apartment areas are open year-round, including straight through the summer.
Hughes Hall closes on Winter Break/Intersession and after the academic year during the summer months.
Schuyler House will close during the summer months after the academic year.
What are the processes and deadlines involved in application, notification, acceptance, and assignment of campus grad student housing?
You may request a brochure/application for Graduate & Professional Student Housing by calling 607-255-5368. You may also use the "Apply for Housing" link in the menu bar to your left to apply for housing online.
There is no cut-off deadline for applications; the Housing Office will always accept your application. Assignments are made according to your preferences (as much as possible), space availability, and the order in which applications are received. It is to your advantage to return your application form quickly. To allow us maximum flexibility in making your housing assignment, be to check the box "I will accept any available assignment" when filling out the housing preferences section of the application. The more options you check, the greater your assignment possibilities. Please know that Graduate housing is not guaranteed, but we make every effort to accommodate your preferences..
You have a limited amount of time to decide if you will accept a campus housing contract offer: Domestic/USA = 2 weeks; International = 4 weeks. A signed contract must be returned to the Housing Office, postmarked by the time-limit deadlines. If your postal service is unreliable, it is recommended that you also contact the Housing Office by phone or fax to inform them of your acceptance of the housing contract. Failure to respond by the deadline will result in re-assignment of that room/apartment to another student. You will receive your actual room/apartment number on the housing contract that is mailed to you.

What is the weather like in Ithaca?
The weather in Ithaca is full of variety, challenges and awesome beauty.
Summer is warm to hot (around 75-85 degrees/F) and humid, lasting from June to August. Autumn, in September and October, is famous for the splendid colors of the trees which cover our hills. Winter is long and cold, lasting from November to March, with temperatures in the 20's and 30's (F) being common and temperatures occasionally even dipping down to zero degrees (F)! The snow, ice, and cold wind will take some getting used to and will require special clothing. Spring is a welcomed sunny, warm, green time in April and May.
