Special Diet Requirements and Food Allergies

Cornell Dining takes special diets and food allergies very seriously. We train our entire staff on gluten-free, food allergens, Kosher dining, and many other special diets. For anyone who follows a specific type of diet for health, medical, religious, or lifestyle reasons, Cornell Dining is happy to work with you to best accommodate your needs.

If a special diet is required out of a medical necessity or if you suffer from a food allergy, Cornell Dining works with the Student Disability Office and has a protocol in place to best meet your needs. First, visit the SDS website at sds.cornell.edu/Policies_Procedures/ProcDining.html to download and complete the paperwork Cornell University requires to keep on file. Next, Michele Wilbur, RD, CDN will meet with you to help guide you on the best dietary choices that fit your needs, and will introduce you to chefs and managers who can prepare special meals if necessary.

Cornell Dining has lactaid and soy milk available at all times. In the All You Care to Eat Facilities, we label all entrees for the eight major food allergens: dairy, eggs, fish, nuts, peanuts, soy, shellfish, and wheat. Gluten free breads, cereals, and other foods are available daily at North Star, Rose House Dining Room, Ivy Room, and Okenshields. Gluten-free items are also being sold at Bear Necessities and Jansen’s Market convenient stores.

For those who follow a Kosher diet, 104West! is the place to go on campus for great Kosher food. 104 West! is certified by the Orthodox Union so that every step is taken to ensure that Jewish dietary laws are strictly followed. 104 West! also accommodates Halal, Muslim, and Seventh Day Adventist diets. All Kosher foods are prepared and packaged under strict supervision of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregation and is directed by a resident mashgiach. Visit North Star for more Kosher offerings, or North Star Express and Jansen’s Market for packaged Kosher food. At all of the All You Care to Eat Facilities, food is labeled if it contains a pork product or alcohol.

Food Allergy Disclaimer:

Cornell Dining makes every attempt to identify ingredients that may cause allergic reactions for those with food allergies. Every effort is made to instruct our food production staff on the severity of food allergies. In addition, we label items with possible allergen-containing ingredients. However, there is always a risk of contamination. There is also a possibility that manufacturers of the commercial foods we use could change the formulation at any time, without notice. Customers concerned with food allergies need to be aware of these risks. Cornell University will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to foods consumed, or items one may come in contact with while eating at any University establishment. Please contact the manager on duty for additional information or for questions about the ingredients in a dish.
